02/22/2017: Rotary Club Luncheon Shines on the 2017 Troup County STAR Students and Teachers STAR Student Winner Seungiu Lee with Parents

Five students and teachers were honored during the 2017 Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) luncheon hosted by the Rotary Club. Before the event ended, Seungju (Jason) Lee from LaGrange High School was named Troup County STAR Student.
 

For the past 58 years, a top academic senior in each participating Georgia high school is named the STAR student for that high school. Created to focus public attention on Georgia’s outstanding students and teachers, this program showcases the academic achievement of students and a chosen educator who was instrumental in their development.

02/22/2017: LaGrange High Future Farmers of America Make and Give Blankets to Needy LHS FFA
In honor of National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Week, the LaGrange High FFA Chapter collected pieces of fleece to make no-sew blankets to donate to the Troup County Sheriff's department. Overall the 127-member chapter collected enough fleece to make 38 blankets. 

The purpose in making the blankets is to place a blanket in each patrol car for children the officers may come in contact with that have no heat in their homes or need to be comforted. FFA is a youth organization within agriculture education that prepares students for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.
2/17/17: Dr. Pugh Visits Troup High with the Celebration Cart THS Collage Celebration Cart

On Friday, teachers at Troup High School were surprised when the Celebration Cart wheeled through the halls before the President's Day holiday. Dr. Cole Pugh, Supt. of TCSS, along with Cabinet members stopped by to recognize every school employee while giving them bags of snacks and drinks. 

This is one of the awesome ways TCSS shows appreciation to employees while saying, 'Thanks for all you do!'  

02/21/17: TCSS Announces Teacher of the Year Finalists! TOTY Finalists

Last week, TCSS Superintendent Dr. Cole Pugh surprised three teachers during the annual Teacher of the Year Surprise Patrol. During this time, the three Teacher of the Year (TOTY) finalists learned they made it to the next local round of competition.
 

The three division finalists are:

  • Michal Bush: 4th Grade English/Language Arts at Hollis Hand Elementary
  • Marie Curtis: 6th – 8th Exceptional Education at Callaway Middle School
  • Kayla Yeargin: 9th Accelerated Algebra at Troup High School

02/07/2017: Parent Workshop: ABLE Act and Guardianship in Georgia Parent Meeting

At the next Exceptional Education seminar, attendees will find out more information about guardianship and obtaining guardianship for a person with a disability. In addition, The Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) will be highlighted. The ABLE Act of Georgia allows families to save a limited amount of money for disability related expenses without impacting Medicaid or SSI. Come and learn how to set up an account.

02/06/17: Georgia Positive Athlete Scholarships and Awards Now Available

For the fourth consecutive year, Positive Athlete Georgia, an organization started by former UGA Football star and Super Bowl XL MVP Hines Ward, will be awarding $22,000 in college scholarships to Georgia high school student-athletes based more on their character than their athletic performance. Winning athletes have a chance to win up to $22,000 in college scholarships. Deadline is March 31.

02/02/2017: Substitute Teacher Training Substitute Teacher Training

Any retired teacher who would like to become substitute teacher can now apply on-line until February 20. 

Substitute Workshop Date

March 1, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 1:30 pm 

Location: Administrative Services Center - Board Room
 

*Before leaving the workshop applicants will schedule a date for fingerprinting. A $45.00 money order is required for fingerprinting.
