09/20/17: TCSS Celebrates Childhood Cancer Awareness Month dOORS

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Troup County School System (TCSS) nurses decided to ‘Go Gold’ to tackle awareness. Christy Mason, RN Health Care Coordinator for TCSS said a door decorating contest would be a powerful conversation starter to help bring childhood cancer awareness to student and adults.

According to Mason, cancer is the third most common cause of death among children between the ages of 1 and 19. In addition:

  • TCSS currently has ten students that are battling cancer.
  • The most common form of childhood cancer is leukemia.
  • Cancer accounted for seven percent of all childhood deaths in Georgia from 2001-2011.

LHS Homecoming Week!

The homecoming parade and community pep rally will take on a new exciting look this year and will begin with groups gathering down at the Blue Barn at the end of the track at 6:30.

The processional will begin at 7:00 pm with the Granger Band leading us up Hunnicut Place to North Greenwood, we will turn right and right again into the senior parking lot for the community pep rally and bonfire.

Upon the completion of the pep rally, there will be a dance held in gym D from 8-10. Don.t miss it.

Please have family and friends line up and down the park to support and join in the spirit-filled time.

 

Chik-fil-a Spirit Night!

Thursday, September 21st is LHS Spirit Night at Chickfila from 4:30 to 8:30 so please plan on joining in and telling them you are there for LHS! LHS gets a percentage of all sales during those hours if the customer tells the workers "I am here for LHS spirit night"

09/19/17: Nicole Kennedy Talks Attendance

September is Attendance Awareness Month and Nicole Kennedy, TCSS Parent Engagement Coordinator talks about why attendance is important; especially in the lower grades. 

 

 

 

PSAT

The PSAT will be administered at LaGrange High School on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.  This test measures critical reading, math problem-solving and writing skills.  This test is the screening instrument for students who wish to enter the National Merit Scholarship Competition or National Achievement Scholarship competition.  The PSAT is also good practice for the SAT Reasoning Test.  All 10th graders will take the PSAT on October 11.   Any 9th or 11th grader who wishes to take the PSAT will need to sign up in the Vocational Office and pay the $15 registration fee.  The fee must be paid in cash or check at the time the student signs up for the test.  The deadline for signing up is Friday, September 22, 2017.  You will receive the Official Student Guide to Taking the PSAT/NMSQT when you sign-up.

Harlem Wizards at the Lagrange High

 

Come out on October 3rd to support Franklin Forest and Ethel Kight in their joint fundraiser! They are hosting the Harlem Wizards at the Lagrange High Gym on October 3rd @ 7:00 (doors open at 6)! Some of our very own are playing in this fun event. Coach Veal, Coach Brooks, and Coach Bozeman along with FFE and EKE teachers will play against the Harlem Wizards.  Get your tickets at FFE, online (students $8, adults $10), or at the door (student $10, adults $12). Let's show our support for our feeder schools!

09/01/17: School Bus Safety Poster Contest School bus Safety

Do you know a student in grades K-8 who loves art? Here is a chance for them to do something creative, fun, and possibly win! The Georgia Association for Pupil Transportation (GAPT) is hosting a School Bus Safety Poster Contest. The theme is: My Driver – My Safety Hero!

The purpose is to help students learn about school bus safety through art. Submissions must be received by Friday, Sept. 22nd so they can be sent to Ga Dept. of Education. Rules and submission information is below.
