Curriculum and Instruction

The curriculum department oversees the academic instruction for all Troup County Schools students, implementing the state's Georgia Performance Standards (https://www.georgiastandards.org).  Troup County Schools are accredited by SACS CASI and serve students in grades Pre-K through 12.

The elementary program, PreK- 5, is designed to meet the individual needs of students by using a variety of strategies and resources. Our goal is to create a supportive environment that fosters creativity and excitement in academics, sports, and the arts for each child.

In grades Pre-K through 2, the emphasis for students is on learning the basic tools necessary to read, write, and compute. In reading and writing, this means mastery of phonics, sight words, increasing vocabulary knowledge and comprehension, and clearly expressing ideas through words, sentences, and paragraphs. In mathematics, this means developing a understanding of numbers, their properties, how they operate, as well as an introduction to measurement, money, and data. In grades 3 through 5, learning builds on these foundational skills as students are encouraged to become an independent learners. Manipulatives and computers help connect abstract concepts to real world experiences and prepare students for secondary course work.

Middle school programs blend a commitment to academic achievement with a supportive place to learn through the use of technology.

High schools offer students the opportunity to excel with advanced placement, technical classes, and fine arts courses. Qualified students have the opportunity to learn even more in their fields of interest in collaboration with technical and traditional colleges in the area.
