Advance Placement, National Merit Scholars for 2011

State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge named the
2011
Georgia Schools of Excellence in Student Achievement, honoring 26
schools that have shown the greatest improvement or highest
achievement across the state. Troup County School System’s very own
Rosemont Elementary was named among the group. Rosemont Elementary
was chosen as one of 13 Georgia Schools of Excellence in the
category of Greatest Gains. They have also received the
Gold Award for Greatest Gains and the Bronze Award
for Highest Performance for students meeting and exceeding
standards.
Dr. Barge stated that, "Schools prove that excellence can be
achieved when everyone focuses on providing a world-class education
for students.”
For the past three years, Rosemont
Elementary has demonstrated continuous gains in student achievement
as measured by assessments in reading and mathematics. Each of the
schools selected will receive a $1,000 check from Georgia Natural
Gas to be used for their school.
Perhaps the most important initiative of the Georgia Department
of Education is the development of career pathways for every
student in the state’s secondary schools. To discuss Georgia’s 17
career clusters and their respective pathways, state department
officials formed a committee comprised of educators from various
counties in Georgia. Troup County High School educator, Amy Hicks,
was chosen to participate. For the past three years, Ms. Hicks has
successful pioneered Troup High’s graphics communication and design
program. The state plans to draw on Troup’s experiences in an
effort to create a world-class delivery system that will provide
instructional relevance by linking rigorous academic learning with
skills required for post secondary success. Congratulations to Ms.
Hicks for being chosen as one of the four educators who will serve
on the state’s arts, technology and communications cluster
committee!
