Promoting a safe and secure school environment is one of the primary goals of the Troup County School System. The Board of Education recently approved funding for new surveillance systems in every school and in every bus. In addition, administrators have now initiated a new program to further ensure safety. Beginning this week, random wand searches for weapons are being conducted on various campuses. |

Student writers of all ages and 300 of their biggest fans crowded into the Callaway Center on Monday for the annual Young Georgia Authors’ Writers’ Tea. The reception recognizes over one hundred students for excellence in writing. |

According to her principal, Ruth Anne Wilson-Jones’ students refer to her as the “coolest teacher” at West Side Magnet School. While being cool was not among the criteria for being named Troup County Schools Teacher of the Year, her talent for engaging students in learning ranked high among the qualities that led to this top teaching honor. |
