In celebration of the recent Georgia Reads Aloud day, pre-kindergarten classes throughout Troup County celebrated by reading over 300 books.

Teachers and Pre-K family support specialists helped their students reach this feat by inviting parents, business partners, mentors, and system administrators to join in as volunteer readers.

“My favorite book was Click, Clack, Moo, Cows that Type by Doreen Cronin,” said Hogansville Elementary School student Alecx Lancaster.  “I thought it was funny that the cows were typing and that the duck always stayed in trouble.  It would be bad if we really didn’t get milk or eggs.  I think I would have to give them anything that they wanted.”

Bright from the Start, the organization that oversees Georgia’s Pre-K program, kept track of books read in classes throughout the state.  In total, over 35,000 books were read in Pre-K classes during Georgia Reads Aloud day.

“While reading is part of every day in Pre-K classes, a special day designated for reading aloud gave schools an opportunity to emphasize the importance of reading and to invite special guests to take part,” said Jacqueline Jones, Pre-K coordinator for Troup County Schools.
