Instructional materials are selected to implement, enrich, and support the educational program for the student. The basic criteria for the selection of materials are found in TCBOE policy IFA . TCBOE policy IFAB contains criteria for the selection of supplementary instructional materials. Selection is an ongoing process which should include removal of materials no longer appropriate and the replacement of lost and worn materials still of educational value. CONSIDERATION FILE It is the responsibility of the school media specialist to compile and maintain a consideration file of recommended books and nonbook materials for purchase. This file should reflect input from administrators, teachers, students, district personnel and community persons, as appropriate. GIFT MATERIALS Gift materials are judged by basic selection standards and are accepted or rejected by these standards. (see TCBOE policy DFK ) Donations of videotapes are accepted or rejected based on selection standards, and after review by the building media committee. They may be used within the same limits as if the school had purchased the items. The programs may only be used in classrooms for instructional purposes tied to curriculum objectives. |
