House Bill 251 - Transfers (Parents Can Now Submit Applications for School Choice)

Under House Bill 251, a state law enacted in 2009, a parent or legal guardian of student in Troup County Schools may request to transfer the child to another Troup County  Public School for the upcoming school year. Before the transfer is allowed, the school district must determine that classroom space is available, that teacher allocations at the school are appropriate and all assigned students have been enrolled and scheduled. Please see the attachments below for details.

06/19/19: TCSS Teachers Prepare to Go to Harvard PZC

What started off as one teacher and a community donation has now turned into ten educators and a group of community donors supporting the professional learning of Troup County School System (TCSS) teachers through the Harvard Project Zero Classroom (PZC). For the fourth year in a row, local educators will descend upon the storied university and join about 400 other PZC learners from around the world.

Lisa Skinner, LaGrange High mathematics teacher, attended the sessions last year. She said, “I was able to immediately use some of the principles learned at Harvard. It changed the way I teach. For example, it was important my students work in a team environment so I removed all the desks and we use tables where they can work closely together. In addition, it takes me out of the center of learning to help them think and derive an answer on their own or with their table mates.”

06/18/19: TCSS Hosts ESOL Camp ESOL Camp

Some K-5 English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students in Troup County School System (TCSS) are preparing for the next school year by heading off the summer slide. As part of the ESOL Summer Enrichment Camp held at Ethel W. Kight Elementary, close to 85 students per day have been spending their time in between the classroom and the playground.

The camp provides TCSS instructors that use curriculum driven programs to teach fluency, build reading comprehension, and develop language proficiency. In addition, school and bus safety is taught so students are aware of evacuations and safety procedures.

06/13/19: TCSS Teachers Learn About Local Manufacturing LIFT

The LaGrange Industrial Fellowship for Teachers (LIFT) externship program got another boost as close to 20 Troup County School System (TCSS) educators filled the halls of area businesses to learn more about advanced manufacturing in Troup County. To date, 61 teachers have been through the program.

Scott Malone, president of LaGrange Development Authority said, “The whole purpose is to have the teachers that are instructing the children know what the opportunities are in business. They can then share this new knowledge in the classroom and in their student learning. Helping the teacher see what the manufacturing environment is today is absolutely critical to everything we are doing for economic development.”

Notice of Millage Rate Hearings - TCSS is NOT Requesting an Increase in 2019 Millage Rates

The Troup County Board of Education has tentatively adopted a 2019 millage rate which will require an increase in property taxes by 2.87 percent.

All concerned citizens are invited to the public hearing on this tax increase to be held at the   Administrative Services Center Board Room, 100 North Davis Road Building C, LaGrange, GA on June 24, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. and 6:00 P.M.

Times and places of additional public hearings on this tax increase are at the Administrative Services Center Board Room, 100 North Davis Road Building C, LaGrange, GA on July 1, 2019 at 10:00 A.M.

This tentative increase will result in a millage rate of 18.850 mills, an increase of 0.526 mills. Without this tentative tax increase, the millage rate will be no more than 18.324 mills. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $125,000 is approximately $25.25 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $125,000 is approximately $26.30.
