Health Services

Each Troup County school is assigned a school nurse or licensed health professional. Please contact your child's school directly and ask to speak with the school nurse. If the nurse is assisting a student, please leave a message, and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

Please keep your child home if they have:

• A fever of 100.4°F or higher
• Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
• A contagious illness that has not been cleared by a healthcare provider
• Symptoms that prevent them from participating in school activities

Students should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication
before returning to school.

Prescription and over-the-counter medications may only be administered according to Troup
County School System medication procedures. Parents or guardians must complete the required
medication permission forms before medication can be given at school.

Please contact your child's school nurse regarding medication at school.

Georgia law allows students to self-carry certain emergency medications, such as inhalers,
epinephrine auto-injectors, and diabetes supplies, when the appropriate healthcare provider and
parent authorization forms are completed and the student has demonstrated the ability to self-
administer safely.

Please contact your school nurse for specific requirements.

Please notify the school nurse before the first day of school or as soon as your child is diagnosed.
Providing updated medical information helps us develop an Individual Health Plan (IHP) and

Emergency Care Plan (ECP), if needed, to support your child's health and safety during the
school day.

Students entering a Georgia public school for the first time are generally required to provide:

• Georgia Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231)
• Georgia Certificate of Vision, Hearing, Dental, and Nutrition Screening (Form 3300)

Additional medical forms may be required if your child needs medication or specialized
healthcare services during school.

The school nurse or trained school staff will assess your child and provide appropriate first aid or nursing care. Parents or guardians will be contacted if your child needs to go home, requires further medical evaluation, or experiences a significant illness or injury. In emergencies, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) may be called.
