Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Tiffany Gibson, Ed. S., NCC, SEL Coordinator

TCSS uses the CASEL 5 Framework to ensure that its SEL programming aligns with the district's goals and mission of educating ALL students by using creative and innovative strategies that provide 'A Place For Every Kid.'

We believe it is most beneficial to integrate SEL throughout each school's academic curricula and culture, schoolwide practices and policies and through ongoing collaboration with families and community organizations.

TCSS also recognizes that building the capacity of adults to model SEL skills is at the core of teacher and leader excellence. Various professional development opportunities are planned that focuses on trauma informed classrooms, working with challenging populations, mental health awareness, and relationship building.

SEL SUPPORT SERVICES
TCSS has a total of 27 school counselors and 6 social workers who work collaboratively to meet the mental health needs of our students. A school counselor, social worker, and school-based therapist is assigned to every school.

Comprehensive counseling services are delivered through classroom guidance lessons, small groups, and individual sessions. Topics include education/career planning, goal-setting, cultural awareness, personal well-being, character education, grief/loss, and other age appropriate matters.

Students who are in need of more intense counseling services may be referred to an outside agency or may take advantage of seeing one of our school-based therapists.
