
Troup County School System Honors 49 Retirees at Annual Retirement Ceremony

LaGrange, Ga. - On Wednesday, May 6, the Troup County School System (TCSS) gathered at Oakfuskee Conservation Center to celebrate the careers and contributions of 49 retiring educators and staff members. The annual retirement ceremony served as a "thank you" to the individuals who have dedicated decades of service to the students and families of Troup County.
The evening was led by Samantha Beamenderfer, the 2026-2027 System Teacher of the Year, who guided attendees through a program filled with reflection and gratitude. The Troup High School AFJROTC opened the event with the Presentation of Colors, followed by a lively musical performance by the West Point Elementary Music Club.
- Reflections: District 4 School Board Member Anne O'Brien shared poignant remarks on the lasting legacy left by retiring class.
- The Honors: Dr. Pennie Tucker and Angela Polite officially recognized each of the 49 retirees, sharing highlights of their professional journeys and retirement plans.
- Poem: Dr. Nigel Waler, Principal of Ethel W. Kight Elementary, moved the audience with a special poem dedicated to the retirees' transition into their next chapter.
- Closing: Superintendent Dr. Hazel provided the closing remarks, emphasizing that while these individuals are leaving the classroom and office, their impact on the community will be felt for generations.
The celebration was made possible through the generous support of local partners such as Houze and Associates who served as the title event sponsor, while the festive atmosphere was enhanced by vibrant balloon displays provided by Tiffany Maynard of The Creatiff Company.
