District Water Regulation

Troup County School System
Water Availability Procedure

In accordance with the requirements of the Child Nutrition Reauthorization of 2010, Public Law 111-296 establishes requirements for making water available to children in the National School Lunch Program.  This regulation includes meals served during breakfast, lunch and after school meal programs.  Water access must be unrestricted, offered at no charge, and served in the place where meals are eaten.

In order to meet the requirements of this regulation, schools must allow students to get a cup of water from the drinking fountain, water cooler, or thermos during meal service.  Water coolers and thermos’ must be filled daily with fresh, cold water and placed in the cafeteria area where students may have access to it.  Cups will be provided by the kitchen staff, if required.
