Dr. Rachel Hazel was appointed Superintendent of the Troup County School System on July 1, 2024. Under her leadership, TCSS achieved its highest graduation rate in district history in 2025, climbing to over 93 percent.
Dr. Hazel’s strategic vision and impact have earned statewide recognition. She was honored with the 2026 President’s Award by the Georgia School Superintendents Association (GSSA) and selected as one of only 20 educational leaders statewide to join the inaugural Georgia Superintendents’ Workforce Leadership Academy at the University of Georgia—an initiative bridging public education with local economic development.
A native of Coweta County, Dr. Hazel attended school there until the 7th grade. She graduated from Pike County High School. Dr. Hazel holds a Doctorate Degree from the University of Central Florida in Executive Leadership, a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Stetson University, and a Bachelor of Science in Exceptional Student Education focusing on Mental Handicaps from the University of Central Florida.
Dr. Hazel brings more than 30 years of public education experience to her role. Throughout her career, she has served as a special education teacher, school principal, Director of Human Resources, and Chief Academic Officer. She is a collaborative, teacher-focused leader deeply dedicated to the academic growth and future success of Troup County students.
