10/10/19: Rep. Bob Trammell Visits Clearview for Georgia PreK Week Trammell

What better way for some Troup County School System (TCSS) students to start Georgia Pre-K Week than with a book? Earlier this week, Representative Robert Trammell arrived at Clearview Elementary with three books in hand. He was spending his morning reading to a group of Pre-K students, and even thought it was slightly cloudy outside, inside, the students enjoyed hearing Cloudy with a Change of Meatballs.

He also read Click, Clack, Moo – Cows That Type and Pete the Cat and the New Guy. Trammell stated, “There’s nothing more important than encouraging children to be lifelong readers and promoting literacy by reading to children. As parents, friends, and family members, there’s nothing more important that we can do for children’s development.”

10/10/19: Dr. Shumate Reads for Pre-K Week reading

Dr. Brian Shumate, Troup County School System Superintendent, walked into Hillcrest Elementary ready to read. At the front desk was a book by Jackie Urbanovic, Duck at the Door. This short read turned out to be the highlight of his day and that of over 40 Pre-K students at Hillcrest Elementary.

While he was there to celebrate Pre-K week with a read, he saw some of the students dressed up as doctors and police chiefs. Carol Montgomery, Hillcrest’s Principal, quickly told him that it was also career day at the school. Before turning the first page in the book, he shared his love of reading with the students and proceeded to ask them about their clothing. He pointed to one young learner, Forest, who stated, “I am a construction worker.” Forest was dressed in all John Deere attire complete with a construction safety hat. Some of the others were ballerinas, singers, pastors, and presidents.
